Yongsan is best known as the home of HYBE’s headquarters, but the exhibition space that used to be the main reason people went there — HYBE INSIGHT — isn’t running anymore. This entry corrects the outdated version of this itinerary you’ll find elsewhere online, and extends the day into Itaewon and Gyeongridan-gil.

Why this route (and what you actually need to know first)

HYBE INSIGHT operated out of the basement floors of HYBE’s Yongsan headquarters at 42 Hangang-daero, offering exhibits on BTS and other HYBE artists. It closed for good on January 15, 2023, and as of this writing, no reopening date or new location has been officially announced. In plain terms: you can’t currently buy a ticket and walk through a HYBE INSIGHT exhibit in Yongsan, full stop. A lot of older blog posts and videos still describe it as an active attraction, so it’s worth confirming the latest status on HYBE’s official channels or Weverse before you build a day around it.

That doesn’t mean Yongsan has nothing to offer. The HYBE building itself is still there for an exterior photo, and Weverse Shop is known to run pop-up stores at spots like Yongsan I’Park Mall from time to time. Pair that with the genuinely multicultural food scene next door in Itaewon and Gyeongridan-gil, and you still get a full day out of the neighborhood.

Getting there

Start at Yongsan Station (Line 1 / Gyeongui-Jungang Line) for the HYBE building and I’Park Mall, then head to Itaewon by subway or bus. The trip from Yongsan Station to Itaewon Station (Line 6) takes about 20–30 minutes including a transfer, and it’s roughly a 15-minute walk from Itaewon Station to Gyeongridan-gil.

  • HYBE headquarters: A working office building with no public access inside — this is strictly an exterior-photo stop.
  • Weverse Shop pop-up store: Occasionally runs limited-run events at spots like Yongsan I’Park Mall, but it’s not a permanent fixture — pop-ups open and close on their own schedule tied to specific artists. Checking Weverse Shop’s official social accounts or website before you go is the best way to avoid a wasted trip.
  • Gyeongridan-gil: No admission — it’s a shopping and restaurant street.

Food, cafes & snacks

Itaewon and Gyeongridan-gil are widely considered Seoul’s most internationally diverse food strip. Kebabs, tacos, Indian curry, and brunch cafes are all easy to find, which makes it a good match for travelers looking for something other than Korean food for a change. Both lunch and dinner work well here, and street food stalls near the Itaewon entrance and bakeries along Gyeongridan-gil are solid for snacking between meals. If you’re after a cafe crawl, the smaller independent cafes tucked into Gyeongridan-gil’s side streets tend to be quieter than the main strip.

Tips

  • The most important tip here isn’t about discounts or lines — it’s avoiding a wasted trip: The single biggest thing to get right on this itinerary is knowing HYBE INSIGHT is closed before you go, not finding out when you arrive. Old ticketing pages and outdated posts are still floating around online, so double-check current status before you build your day around it.
  • Saving money: Weverse Shop pop-up events often run alongside lucky-draw promotions, so a purchase can double as event participation. These run-of-limited-time, so following their social accounts is the only real way not to miss one.
  • Skipping the wait: Itaewon and Gyeongridan-gil’s popular restaurants can have real waits on weekend evenings. Going on a weekday or earlier in the evening (around 5–6pm) usually means walking straight in.
  • Route tip: Don’t linger too long in Yongsan itself — a quick check of the HYBE building and any pop-up is enough before heading to Itaewon, where there’s genuinely more to do.

Yongsan is the neighborhood in this whole series where outdated information and current reality have diverged the most, so knowing the changes covered here is most of the battle.
