If you’re building a K-pop-themed day in Gangnam, K-Star Road is the obvious starting point. Pair it with Starfield Library and Bongeunsa Temple and you get a full day of walking and subway hops that costs almost nothing in admission fees — easily the most budget-friendly of the five Gangnam itineraries in this series.

Why this route

Apgujeong Rodeo sits at the entrance to the Cheongdam-Apgujeong corridor, where several major K-pop agencies are clustered. You don’t need to track down a specific agency building to feel that — Gangnam-gu’s own K-Star Road does the work for you, turning a stretch of sidewalk into a K-pop-themed walk. Add two of Gangnam’s best free attractions, Starfield Library and Bongeunsa, and you have a genuinely full day for the cost of a couple of subway rides.

Getting there

Start at Apgujeong Rodeo Station (Suin-Bundang Line) and walk K-Star Road toward the Cheongdam intersection. Once you’ve seen the statues, head back to the station and take the subway to Samseong Station (Line 2) — one transfer at Seolleung, or a roughly 10-minute taxi ride if you’d rather skip it. A single subway fare runs about 1,400–1,550 won with a T-money card, so round-trip transit for the whole day comes to a few thousand won at most. Expect to walk 5–6km total between K-Star Road and the COEX Mall interior, so wear comfortable shoes.

Admission fees & hours

  • K-Star Road: An outdoor street stretching about 1km from Apgujeong Rodeo Station Exit 5 toward Cheongdam, lined with “Gangnam Dol” sculptures representing 18 groups from SM, YG, JYP, and other agencies. Free, open 24/7.
  • Gangnam Dol House: A visitor center behind Exit 7 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station, open 10:00–19:00 (closed for lunch 13:00–14:00). A kiosk here lets you look up where your favorite group’s statue is and nearby celebrity-linked shops — worth stopping by first so you don’t backtrack the whole 1km stretch.
  • Starfield Library: 513 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, B1 of COEX Mall. Open 10:30–22:00, no closed days, free.
  • Bongeunsa Temple: Directly across from COEX. No admission fee. Opening hours vary by source (roughly early morning to 10pm), so calling ahead (02-3218-4800) is the safe move. Budget about an hour to walk the grounds.

One important correction: the SMTOWN COEX Artium that used to anchor this neighborhood closed back in 2020. If you’re chasing SM-related exhibits or merchandise, you’ll want Seongsu-dong’s KWANGYA@SEOUL instead (covered in Gangbuk Day 1 of this series) — don’t waste time hunting for a “SM museum” near COEX that no longer exists.

Food, cafes & snacks

The alleys around Gangnam Dol House are dense with brunch cafes and dessert spots, so lunch and a coffee break can happen in the same stop. COEX Mall’s underground food court covers everything from Korean food to street-food-style snacks for dinner, and the cafe next to Starfield Library is a relaxed spot to browse books over coffee. For a quick snack, the mall’s bakeries and dessert counters (croffles, macarons) and the soft-serve stands around Apgujeong Rodeo are solid, low-effort options.

Tips

  • Saving money: Since Starfield Library, K-Star Road, and Bongeunsa are all free, this itinerary barely needs a discount strategy. COEX Mall stores rotate card and mobile-payment promotions constantly, so it’s worth checking coex.co.kr’s events page the day before you go.
  • Skipping the crowds: K-Star Road rarely gets crowded since it’s outdoors, but Starfield Library’s photo spots can get a line on weekend afternoons. Visiting on a weekday morning, or right at opening (10:30), gets you a much emptier space.
  • Route tip: Check your favorite group’s statue location at Gangnam Dol House before you start walking — it saves you from covering the full 1km stretch twice.
